Together, we share over a decade of experience working with individuals living with stroke, traumatic brain injury, or other progressive neurological disorders. We are also certified yoga instructors with specialized training in adaptive yoga services, including the Love Your Brain certification.
Our Story began as friends, colleagues, and fellow yogis at a hospital in Northern Virginia. After getting several requests from patients for yoga and mindfulness resources designed for their specific needs, we began searching for options. That’s when we realized that there was not much available— particularly from teachers trained in the unique physical, cognitive, and language impairments associated with neurological conditions. So, in 2020, with years of yoga experience, clinical expertise, and teaching certifications in hand, we set out to design our own classes and bring the healing powers of adaptive yoga to our hospital. Inspired by the change we saw in our patients, we founded District Adaptive Yoga in 2022 to make the physical and cognitive benefits of movement accessible to everyone across this community.
At District Adaptive Yoga, we combine our understanding of neurological conditions with the healing power of yoga to support and maintain healthy lifestyles for individuals recovering from and living with neurological conditions. Our specialized adaptive yoga services, including online classes and 1:1 sessions, are designed to meet individuals where they are, supporting a range of abilities and needs. Grounded in science and experience, we bring a whole-body approach to healing and mindfulness.
We offer virtual yoga and meditation classes throughout the month!
